they do not allow your nails to breath and therefor grow for one and secondly when they are taken off your nails are very thin...this is also unhealthy...that is the big thing about the gel nails...they let your nails breath but still not as much as they need to to be healthyWhy are fake nails so bad for you?

before they put them on, they file down layers of your nail to where it is very thin. when you take off your nails, they'll be very frail and thin. they're like that until they grow out.
I had gel nails for a few months last year. When I took them off, the nails underneath were dry, brittle, thin and kept breaking down to way past the quick for months afterward.
very simply the acrilic ruins your real nail and when the fake nails come off your old nails are all rough and ridged. geww!
bacteria can get trapped and grow underneath and around the fake nail. It also damages the nail bed and may inhibit your natural nail growth.
